COVIDSafe Plan for Horticulture Operations

A COVIDSafe Plan is a list of health and safety actions. It is an important part of the occupational health and safety obligations of every workplace.

Every Victorian business or organisation with on-site operations should keep a COVIDSafe Plan at each workplace. They should provide it to an Authorised Officer upon request and co-operate with any direction given by an authorised officer or WorkSafe inspector to modify the COVIDSafe plan. The plan should set out how the workplace will keep workers, customers and other attendees safe from COVID-19. It also helps to prepare for a case of COVID-19 in the workplace.

All workplaces should regularly review and update their COVIDSafe Plan to ensure it reflects the current COVIDSafe settings.

A COVIDSafe Plan should demonstrate how the business will:

  • manage a COVID-19 case at the workplace

  • address record keeping requirements, including the process for recording vaccination status of workers, if applicable to their sector

  • address relevant face mask and protective personal equipment requirements

  • take steps to mitigate the introduction of COVID-19 to the workplace

  • respond to any symptomatic worker or confirmed cases of COVID-19

  • document evidence of compliance with the COVIDSafe Plan.

Workplaces should also consider any other advice and requirements relevant to developing their COVIDSafe Plan – such as employment or occupational health and safety laws.

Businesses must review and update their COVIDSafe Plans regularly, especially when restrictions or public health advice change. Organisations with multiple worksites must complete a COVIDSafe Plan for each worksite.

Get tested

If you have any cold or flu symptoms, get tested for COVID-19. Do not delay.

Symptoms could include fever, chills or sweats, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, runny nose and loss or change in sense of smell or taste.

After your test, go home immediately and stay there until you receive results and follow directions of the Victorian Department of Health.  Anyone directed to self-isolate by the Victorian Department of Health must do so immediately.

Victorian Sick Pay Guarantee

The Victorian Sick Pay Guarantee provides casual and contract workers in certain jobs with up to 38 hours a year of sick and carer’s pay. Payments are made at the national minimum wage ($21.38 as of 1 July 2022). The Guarantee is fully funded by the Victorian Government for two years. Check your eligibility and sign up now.

The Sick Pay Guarantee is available only for missed work. A positive RAT or PCR test is not sufficient proof of evidence to support your claim. You will need to provide a medical certificate or statutory declaration.
